What started your fitness journey?

I retired after 28 years of teaching Special Education for the District of Columbia Public School system. During this transitional period, I discover that I had two health challenges, high blood pressure and diabetes and decided to take a stand and do something about these challenges. Get back into exercising at least five days a week was my solution.

What classes have you been trained in?

I love variety in my workouts. My certifications include: Zumba (Basic, Toning, Gold and Sento ((chair workout)), Ploxing, aerobic dancing, line dancing and Pound Rockout Workout.

Which one is your favorite and why?

My favorite is the “Pound Rockout Workout”. I discovered this workout on the “Steve Harvey” and “Dr. OZ” show, loved it and decided to become a licensed instructor in 2013.

What is the Pound Rockout Workout?

It is an effective, fun and challenging fitness method that combines a full-body cardio conditioning, core isometric movements, plyometric and isometric poses combining light resistance with constant simulating drumming. Using lightly weighted drumsticks, called “Ripstix”, one can rock their entire body into beautiful shape while burning calories.

How have participants responded to this new workout?

The workouts have been a great success. Many participates state it gives them an opportunity to pound out frustrations they have encountered throughout the day. Others state it has helped them gain strength in their upper body, and most of all it is a fun workout.

Is this workout for all age group?

Yes, it’s also for adults who never got the opportunity to play the drums but wanted to “drum”. The oldest individual who has done this workout is 103 years old.   At the present time, I teach this workout at the following sites: D.C. Therapeutic Recreation Center, Hayes Wellness Center, Anthony Bowen YMCA, Pursuit Baptist Church, and Bald Eagle Recreation Center.
