TABATA By Sonja Newman
Want to get in shape, but you don’t have the time? There is a workout that can scorch calories in as few as four minutes…. TABATA
Tabata was introduced by Izumi Tabata in 1996. It is a high-intensity 4-minute interval training, fat-burning workout. It may not sound like a long time, but it is one of the longest four minutes you’ll ever encounter. It will increase your fitness level dramatically.
The structure of the program is: workout hard for 20 seconds then rest for 10 seconds. Complete eight rounds. Again, I say, push yourself as hard as you can for those 20 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds until you complete eight sets. Whew!
You can do pretty much any exercise you wish. It is recommended you work the large muscle group…. squats, pushups, rows, etc…
An example of a 20-minute Tabata workout looks like this:
- Do 20 seconds…hard
- Rest for 20 seconds
- Complete 8 sets
- Rest for 1 minute
Squats – repeat the sequence of 20 seconds on 10 seconds off. Do 8 squats rest for 1 minute and then,
Rows – repeat the sequence of 20 seconds on 10 seconds off. Do 8 sets, rest for 1 minute…
– finish up with,
Sit-ups – repeat the sequence of 20 seconds on 10 seconds off.
And there it is – TABATA
