The holiday season is the time of year for feeling joyful. Instead, too many of us end up feeling stressed due to overspending. We don’t even have to wait until January 1st to start feeling the pressure of spending too much! Now is the time to be proactive. Here are some tips to help you spend less and minimize stress during the holidays:
1. Avoid using credit cards; cash is king.
It is not too late to start saving for your holiday purchases. Avoid charging purchases on your credit card unless it can be paid in full in 30 days.
2. Make a list and stick to it.
Although it may be tempting to splurge on all your friends and family, it is simply not necessary. Stick with your list!
3. Don’t budge without a budget.
Set predetermined spending amounts that are within your budget for each individual on your list. Again, be disciplined and stick to it.
4. Avoid shopping for yourself.
You have all year to shop for yourself. Make this time focus on people you care about and you’ll spend less by doing so.
5. Check the Net first.
The Internet makes it easy to bargain. Hunt and avoid impulse spending, but be mindful of shipping charges.
The key factors to spending less during the holidays is to pace yourself, relax and enjoy the season. Rushing to buy can lead to poor purchasing choices that can cost you in the long run.
